Johansson/Holdsworth
Heavy Machinery
The Story
The Shrapnel line, "In the tradition of such classic rock/fusion recordings as Tony William's Lifetime, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Bruford and Coliseum II, to name a few, "Heavy Machinery" enters the arena featuring world class performers Jens and Anders Johanssen (Yngwie Malmsteen) and guitar legend Allan Holdsworth (Soft Machine, Bruford, Gong, UK, IOU)". There's a reason why guitarists such as Eddie Van Halen idolize Holdsworth--the guy is a monster player who can show any guitarist a dozen ways to enhance his or her playing. Excellent guitar solos abound on "Heavy Machinery", and Anders Johansson does a particularly nice job on the drums. Note, the last track "Macrowaves" is not a 24 minute jam as the credits might suggest (nor a 50 minute jam as the back of the CD might suggest), it's about 2:40 of keyboards, followed by 21 minutes of silence, then another minute or so of keys and drums--the one silly inclusion on the recording.
