Al DiMeola
Anthology
The Story
With "Anthology", the Columbia label hoped to release the definitive DiMeola collection, however, DiMeola's career has been going on for so long, it's like trying to map a fast growing city. They did manage to accurately summarize the fusion king's work from the mid to late '70s through the early '80s. DiMeola's compositional strength shines brightly, as does his absoultely blazing guitar work featuring his trademarks - mindboggling speed and precision. There isn't a bad tune on the two-CD collection, with favorites from classic fusion albums such as "Casino", "Splendido Hotel", the incredible "Elegant Gypsy" and more. Complete liner notes and some great photographs comlete the package. A good pickup for the car, even if you have all of DiMeola's studio releases (and you should).
