The Story
Larry Carlton's "Eight Times Up" was recorded live on January 28, 1983 at Yuninchokin Hall in Tokyo, Japan between the "Strikes Twice" album and the follow-up, "Friends". This concert fits the bill perfectly for those looking for extended improvisations from the remarkable fusion guitarist, who is joined by Abraham Laborial on bass, John Ferraro on drums and Terry Trotter on Fender Rhodes. Brian Mann is also featured on organ and an array of synthesizers. "Eight Times Up" was originally only issued in Japan and Europe, and was Carlton's second live album recorded in Japan (fans will remember the impresseive 1979 release "Mr. 335 Live In Japan"). No happy sax, no superfluous vocals - just Carlton's trademark phrasing.
