In college I had a girlfriend that was always trying to figure out the short cuts in life. Our ideas and philosophies didn't match up as time went by. She always wanted to go the bank and I wanted to do other stuff. So we drifted apart.
Years later an old college teammate called me and asked if I ever married that girl. When I told him no, he said that was a good thing because she was on the news being arrested for robbing several banks. It was at that moment, I realized what an opportunity I had missed out on!
In Los Angeles, we have extensive car chases by the police all captured on TV by the news helicopters. Sometimes they seem to go on forever. If I had just stayed in touch with her, she could have put my website address (TimSweeney.com) on top of the getaway car! It would have been seen by millions of people! What was I thinking? A great opportunity lost.
Most artists forget or never learn that the most unusual promotion captures more new fans than the same old ones!
