Overwhelmed Music Artists Lack Sales And Impact

Most music artists are overwhelmed. That goes for all kinds of artists, filmmakers,
actors, painters, etc., except for the one's I work with. The reason why the
ones I work are not overwhelmed is that they are building music and artistic careers
that will last another 20 years.

When you are overwhelmed with the time and effort you put into your day job,
relationships with friends and family, all the little things in life you have to do
like errands, bills and cleaning, when do you have time to write new songs, play
shows and actually promote your music? To be an effective artist, one that can
generate the sales and income you want from your music so you can do it full time,
you must learn to focus on the three or four new objectives each month that are most
important to your career.

For example, most artists I meet with for the first time show me their marketing
plans for the next 6-12 months or lists of 20-30 items they try to do each month.
When I start to cross off the items that won't get them the results they want,
they begin to realize they have more time to focus on the ones that I indicate will
get them the results they want. When you construct a marketing plan that lasts for
months you limit yourself from creating new opportunities and taking advantage of
them.

The key to being successful with your music career (whether that's in sales or
the impact you have on people or both) depends upon building your career one step at a time. Stop trying to do 20-30 things a month when you don't have the time
and energy to do them. Plus there are only 3 key things to do each month anyway. If
you have been in other music groups or projects before that didn't last, you
have already seen the affects of not focusing on what will get you the results you
want.
