The Story
Planet X's music, audible on debut CD "Universe", takes the listener on a journey rich in melodic soundscapes. From the awe-inspiring intricacies of "King of the "Universe"" to the untamed power of "Supernova," the album, recorded at Sherinian's Leopard Room studio in the Hollywood Hills, is an auditory feast for progressive fusion fans. Guitarist Tony MacAlpine sees Planet X as the perfect combination of the right music and great players, with a secret weapon: "All of us are composers," he points out. "This band is a vital entity for today's music lovers and enthusiasts. It's quite original." Drummer Virgil Donati states, "The interaction between Derek Sherinian, Tony and myself is very creative," he says. "Our use of dissonance, consonance, modulation from one key to another, changes of tempo, orchestration, and other rhythmic devices, contibute to the listener's experience." "Universe" certainly marks a return to virtuoso-based music.
