Uli Jon Roth
Transcendental Sky Guitar
The Story
"Transcendental Sky Guitar" may very well represent German guitarist Uli Jon Roth's finest work ever, containing over 2 hours of music - 25 songs on a 2 CD set. This nearly all-instrumental collection includes "The Phoenix", a CD featuring concert pieces, and "The Dragon", a CD with encores and improvisations, including covers of Hendrix' "Voodoo Chile", "Villanva Gem" and "Atlantis". The concert CD has a neo-classical to classical flavor, with adaptations of pieces by Mozart ("Rondo Alla Turca"), Paganini ("Paganini Paraphrases"), Mendelssohn ("Fairy Dance") and other classical greats. The improvisational CD is loaded with Roth's remarkable feats of guitar playing wizardry, and culminates with the beautiful "Air De Bach". "Transcendental Sky Guitar" is destined to inspire a generation of guitarists as a documented example of the power and glory of the electric guitar.
