Pat Metheny Group
American Garage
The Story
"American Garage" contains five examples of Pat Metheny's unique voice on guitar, assisted by co-songwriter Lyle Mays on keyboards, which display structured arrangements and intense improvisation and interplay, with a hint of a rock influence. "American Garage" features the smooth jazz tune "The Search" and the energetic title track, which shows Metheny taking a more authoritative stance. The nearly 13-minute "The Epic" finds the band developing some real combustion in the improvised sections as Metheny, Mays, bassist Mark Egan and drummer Danny Gottlieb display the talent that led to sold out stadium shows in the late '70s and early '80s.
